Easter Sunday--Jesus is Alive!

What rejoicing takes place Easter morning as we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ!
We had a lovely service that morning with scripture, song, and word that all celebrated our Christ.

Holy Week also included 2 other important events: Love Feast on Maundy Thursday when we come together to follow Christ's example at the Last Supper and then to take the bread and cup in remembrance of Him.
Our Good Friday service centered on the cross draped in black and the crucifixion of Christ.
The bare altar except for the cross and the lilies helped us focus on that message.

Sunday School is 9:30 Sunday mornings, followed by worship at 10:30.
We have a weekly Bible Study on Tuesday morning at 9:30.
You are welcome to join us as we seek to follow Christ--peacefully, simply, and together.

Chicken Noodle Supper

Women's Fellowship sponsored a community chicken noodle supper last night,
 March 1.
While the weather forecast was not good, the snow held off, and for that, we thank God.
Our crowd was still small but those who came enjoyed the dinner and the fellowship.
Those who did not come missed out--come next time!

Our young people helped pick up dishes and clean trays.

The serving line: we served chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes, green beans. tossed salad, and a variety of desserts.

Some of the folks who came to eat, including our pastor and his wife, Tim and Betty Sue.

More youngsters enjoying their work--we greatly appreciate their efforts!

Activities like these help hold together our family for the work of Jesus. Come, join us, as we worship and participate in a variety of projects and activities as part of the church of Jesus Christ.

Do These Bones Live?

At the Cerro Gordo Church of the Brethren, we are working to "Let the Bones Live" by following Jesus' example and teachings.
One way we do this is by serving others.

The Women's Fellowship sponsored a work day at church this past week. Our goal was to make as many blankets as possible to give to shelters and others in need.

Sometimes we ironed fabric (of which our quilt room holds plenty) and some of us pieced quilt squares (some are laid out on the table in the above photo.

Some of us tied quilts.

Some of us tied fleece blankets.

We finished 5 blankets and have 3 more in various stages of completion.
We also enjoyed devotions on Dorcas, a loved and respected woman, who Peter raised from the dead.
What a joy it is to work together for Christ!

All are welcome to join us in worship and in work! Please come!

Community Christmas Vespers--Prepare the Way of the Lord

Nativities are wonderful reminders of the reason for the seasons of Advent and Christmas. There are so many unique nativities, and each one helps to remind us of God's purpose in sending Jesus to all people, not just to the Jews in Judea at the time of His arrival and not just to us here in the United States. Let us all ponder where we are on our faith journeys as we go through the month of December and the coming year of 2014.
This nativity is in the back of our sanctuary. Come, join us for worship, and experience the coming of Christ.

Our children sang "The Friendly Beasts" during our annual community Christmas Vespers this past Sunday. What an inspiring service it was! The energy of the children is incredible, and they came through with flying colors. We were privileged to see and hear many wonderful messages in song from our community during that hour.
Fellowship followed with supper and visiting.
Many people in Cerro Gordo look forward to this event each year, and our congregation is no exception. We wait expectantly for next year's event.

In the meantime, we will have a Christmas candle lighting service at our church on Wednesday, December 18 at 7:00. All are welcome to participate as we listen to the scripture and sing many well-loved carols. We end our service with communion and circling the sanctuary with our candlelight. The Christmas season is not quite complete without this service at our church.

It's Advent season, time to prepare for our celebration of Jesus' birth.
We decorated our sanctuary this past Sunday after church and are eager for this coming Sunday afternoon when we will host the annual community Christmas Vespers. We will be spiritually filled with wonderful musical contributions from our area churches. Please come join us:
December 8, 2013, at 4:00 p.m.
After this delightful service, we will serve a light supper in the Fellowship Hall. All are welcome.

Then we will have a pre-Christmas service on Wednesday, December 18 at 7:00. This is another special time for our congregation with communion and candle-lighting. We invite all to come and be filled with the message of Christ and Christmas.
